San Ignacio

San Ignacio is located in the northwestern department of Chalatenango.

San Ignacio is at 1010 m ASL and 86 km from San Salvador by the road "Troncal del Norte" that connects the capital with Tejutla, La Palma, San Ignacio, Citalá, and the border El Poy.

Their patron festivals are held from 23 to July 31 in honor of St. Ignatius of Loyola.

Among the tourist attractions of the town include: El Peñón de Cayaguanca; the hills El Pital (our highest elevation, 2730 m ASL where we have a little misty forest with its own microclimate and lots of varieties of birds and orchids) and Piedra Rajada.

Las Pilas is an area where you can see vegetables that do not grow anywhere else in El Salvador because of the need to survive temperatures that only some can be found there.
